What Profhilo actually is
In one sentence
Profhilo is a stabilised hybrid of high-molecular-weight (1100–1400 kDa) and low-molecular-weight (80–100 kDa) hyaluronic acid, stabilised by thermal cross-linking (NAHYCO™) rather than the chemical cross-linkers used in standard HA fillers.
The classification is a bit murky. Because it’s HA, it could be called a filler. Because it doesn’t add discrete volume and works primarily through fibroblast signalling, it behaves more like a biostimulator. The marketing term “bioremodeller” captures the in-between nature.
How Profhilo works
The hybrid structure releases two HA fractions on different timelines:
- Low-MW HA fraction: released relatively quickly. Engages fibroblasts and signals upregulation of collagen and elastin production. This is the “bio” part — tissue regeneration rather than space occupation.
- High-MW HA fraction: released slowly. Provides extended hydration and a longer-lasting subtle tissue effect.
Net result: skin firmness, hydration, and quality improvement over 2–3 months. Not volume.
The BAP injection technique — 5 points per side
Profhilo is delivered through a specific 5-point injection protocol called BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points). The five anatomical points per side of the face:
- Zygomatic eminence — the cheekbone prominence.
- Nasal base — lateral to the alar base.
- Tragus — just anterior to the ear.
- Chin — lateral chin area.
- Angle of mandible — the corner of the jaw.
Each side receives ~1 ml of Profhilo, distributed as 0.2 ml boluses across the five points. Total per session: 2 ml. These specific points are chosen because they lie within “safe” vascular zones and allow the product to diffuse across the wider facial area.
Similar point-based protocols exist for neck and hands.
The 2-session protocol
Standard Profhilo treatment:
- Session 1: 2 ml across the 10 BAP points.
- Session 2: 4 weeks later, repeat.
- Maintenance: every 6–9 months as a single 2 ml session.
The two-session loading dose is built into the protocol because the bioremodelling effect needs the second deposit to consolidate. Skipping the second session significantly reduces effect.
When Profhilo fits
Best indications:
- Lower-face skin laxity — mild to moderate.
- Neck laxity — the “crepey” neck with no volume needs.
- Hand rejuvenation — subtle skin quality improvement.
- Décolleté — chest crepiness.
- Patients who want a regenerative HA without the bulk of standard filler.
Wrong indications:
- Volume loss (use HA filler or Sculptra)
- Defined contour change (use HA filler)
- Significant skin redundancy (lasers/surgery)
- Acute event need (timeline doesn’t fit — results emerge over months)
Profhilo vs hyperdilute Radiesse vs PRF for skin tightening
For the same indication (skin laxity, no volume loss), three reasonable choices:
| Profhilo | Hyperdilute Radiesse | PRF | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | HA bioremodelling | CaHA collagen induction | Autologous growth factors |
| Sessions | 2 (then maintenance) | 2–3 | 3–4 |
| Longevity | 6–9 months/cycle | 12–18 months | 6–12 months/cycle |
| Reversibility | Partial (hyaluronidase, less efficient than standard HA) | None | N/A (autologous) |
| Cost per cycle | Moderate | Moderate-high | Low-moderate |
Honest note on offerings
Profhilo has solid evidence and is widely used in Europe and Asia. La Clinica does not routinely stock Profhilo at present — the indication overlap with hyperdilute Radiesse and PRF (both of which we use heavily) is large. If Profhilo is specifically the right tool for your case, we’ll discuss it honestly and refer to a colleague with established Profhilo volume rather than substitute.
FAQ
Is Profhilo “better” than standard HA filler?
Different category, not better. Profhilo doesn’t add volume the way HA filler does — it improves skin quality and firmness. If you need volume, use filler. If you need skin laxity improvement without volume change, Profhilo (or hyperdilute Radiesse, or PRF) fits.
Can Profhilo replace fillers?
No. Profhilo and HA fillers do different things. Many treatment plans use both — filler in specific areas for contour, Profhilo across the lower face for skin quality.
Will I see results immediately?
No. There’s a small amount of post-injection swelling that resolves in 24–48 hours, then a return to baseline. The bioremodelling effect emerges over 4–8 weeks and consolidates by 3 months.
How does Profhilo compare to PRF?
Both are regenerative approaches. PRF uses your own growth factors; Profhilo uses a hybrid HA. PRF tends to be cheaper per cycle and has the advantage of being autologous (your own material). Profhilo is more standardised. The choice often comes down to availability and patient preference for autologous vs synthetic.
Considering Profhilo — or wondering what to use instead?
We can discuss honestly whether Profhilo, hyperdilute Radiesse, or another skin-tightening approach fits your case best. No commitment.
